The Bosch Axial Glide saw is an excellent machine with great engineering and build-quality that delivers very accurate cuts. One feature of the saw that did leave me a bit disappointed though was the dust collection capability. A lot of the saw dust seemed to escape and end up behind the saw and around it. So in true DP style, I decided to modify the saw with my own dust collection upgrades which make a big difference.
Wood dust is definitely a health concern and we are becoming more aware of that in recent years. In addition to being bad for your health, wood dust is also time consuming to clean up. The more dust you can capture at the source, the better off you are. Less time cleaning up means more time woodworking and doing what you love. As a professional, in my case and in many others it also means more production time which means more profit.
If you've ever cut and installed laminate flooring before, then you know that it creates a dusty mess. Cutting outside is time consuming to go back and forth and still makes a mess of the outdoor space. I've come up with a couple jigs that work with a dust extractor and a circular saw that allow for near dustless cuts. Being able to make all the rip cuts, cross-cuts and notches right along side of where the flooring is being installed is a huge time saver.
