I built this custom hallway table for my own home and incorporated the design elements that I wanted. I love using contrasting woods in furniture so this table was built from maple and walnut with a hand rubbed oil finish. The drawer front was made from birdseye maple.
This detail shot is from the hallway table and shows the hand cut dovetails that I did for the drawer construction. I used walnut for the drawer interior to create contrast with the birdseye maple front.
The top of the hallway table was made from a beautiful single width walnut board. A hand plane was used for the final smoothing before the hand rubbed oil finish was applied. I don't get the chance to build furniture often anymore but when I do I like to enjoy the process.
This bedside table was constructed from dimensional 2x4 spruce lumber and OSB sheathing. I wanted to try creating a piece of furniture from materials that you would normally find within the wall construction of your home. I was pleased with how it turned out and it goes to show that you don't always need expensive materials to create furniture.
